Garmin Smartwatch

2016 March 1

Garmin’s Quatix 3 is the first general-purpose watch that incorporates navigational features and marine tools that sailors will appreciate. It streams NMEA 2000 data from compatible electronics onboard—wirelessly and with flare. The high-resolution color display can be read in sunlight. It also incorporates a LED backlight, and is highly scratch-resistant.

The watch is fully customizable, so users can program it for sailing and other activities that pertain to them, such as SUP, skiing, hiking and swimming. Marine-specific features include tide data, anchor alarm and anchor rode calculator. A dedicated MOB key is a safety feature that can’t be overlooked. Racers in sequence will like the race countdown times, distance to start line as well as time to burn. There is also a tack assist screen. Users can select race or cruise mode for more options. www.garmin.com, $600
