Hylas 57

2022 March 1

This powerful offshore cruiser has all the bells and whistles that allow shorthanded sailing in comfort

The rich teak flooring and white oak cabinetry glow with the boat’s indirect mood lighting.

The wide companionway, easy-to-navigate steps with comfortable handrails lead to a wide open saloon that is light and airy, with wraparound windows and a dozen large portlights. The light oak finish and neutral interior was crisp and inviting.

“The increased popularity of white oak, and on occasion ash, has really brought a new brightness to our yacht interiors,” Huang said. “Faux leather and suede are nice and manageable for interior furnishing and the classic Sunbrella works well for exterior cushions.”

Hull No. 1’s interior layout is one of the two standard options, which are available with three or four cabins. Semi-custom building methods allow for owner-specified interior options. Hull No. 3 will launch with an ultramodern interior designed by the Italian company Hot Lab, with Newport Yacht Interiors working on Hull No. 4.

“The three-cabin layout is popular because of the walk-through galley,” Huang said. “Turning the third cabin into a workroom and laundry while still having a usable bunk is a popular option.”

The gourmet, in-line galley, located to starboard, is comfortable when sailing in a seaway.

The in-line galley is located in the passageway to the aft owner’s cabin along the starboard side. With a front opening main refrigerator, twin drawer freezers, beverage refrigerator, four-burner stove top and oven, the galley rivals most home setups.

The owner’s cabin includes a queen berth on centerline accessible from both sides. In keeping with its bluewater nature, the mattress is split, which allows you to rig a lee cloth when making long ocean passages. There’s plenty of storage and two hanging lockers. The large en suite head has a separate shower.

The huge navigation station is tucked down to port, and is the hub of all system management too. The 57 is a bluewater cruiser and storage has been cleverly located throughout the boat. Hylas 57 has zoned heating and cooling, which can run independent of the generator with the lithium battery bank.
