SAILING's editors roundup the best new boats you'll see at boat shows this year
Maine Cat MC 38
Maine Cat is on the cusp of the wave of high-performance cruising catamarans. Instead of a heavy diesel in each hull, the 38 mounts a 50-horsepower outboard in a centerline nacelle, and it sports high-aspect foils. The foils should help upwind performance. The MC 38 was designed to average 10 knots under power but top out at 21 knots under sail. The gennaker, flown off a sprit, should help the boat move nicely. But the boat is still a cruiser. The covered, airy bridgedeck doubles as a sun-tanning platform and a shelter from sun or rain. LOA 37’10”; Beam 21’; Draft 19” (boards up), 6’6” (boards down); Displ. 12,400 lbs.; Sail area 812 sq. ft., www.mecat.com. Price: $337,000
