7. Bury the tail Next, expose the snare on the end of the wand and grab the tapered tail strands. Carefully pull the tail into the standing part of the rope. Figure 7 shows the buried tail.
8. Taper the end of the tail. For the smoothest splice, you want to taper the end of the tail a little more. Ravel the end of the rope and cut the strands on a long taper. Figure 8 shows where to cut.
9. Smooth the bury. Finally it is time to smooth out the splice. Holding the eye, smooth the standing part down over the tail. The buried tail will retract inside, and you will be left with a beautiful splice. To prevent the bury from coming apart under (or prying fingers), I place a whipping just below the Brummel. Figure 9 shows the finished splice.
