New boat: Beneteau Oceanis 50

Beneteau continues to refine their line of performance cruisers with the introduction of a new 50 and 58. With the sleek lines, low coachroof and long eyebrow window we've come to expect of European designs, the 50 offers a great cruising platform for a crowd.
As it should be, the cockpit is the hub of this cruising boat. A large and comfortable seating area with a cockpit table that features bottle holders, foldaway leaves and the option to hold a chartplotter monitor sits just forward of twin steering stations. Solid wood decking decorates the transom step and a life raft locker is incorporated into the transom.
Two interior layouts are available. A two-cabin, two-head version features spacious aft and forward cabins and a max ceiling height of 6 feet, 8 inches. A large galley to port offers a U-shaped Corian counter, three-burner stove and oven, a front-opening refrigerator, top-opening freezer and lots of cupboards and lockers for storage.
In the three-cabin, two-head configuration, two aft cabins split the back of the boat while the forward cabin keeps the en suite head. Both layouts have a nav station, U-shaped dining area and a two-person bench seat to starboard.
Several finish details stand out on the 50, including mahogany-stained Alpi woodwork, LED lighting and accents in stainless steel and leather.
Other options, including a deep keel drawing 6 feet, 10 inches or a standard keel drawing 5 feet, 9 inches, and in-mast furling allow customization of the boat.
Designed by Berret Racoupeau Design and built at Beneteau's Marion, South Carolina, plant, the Oceanis 50 is a stylish-looking boat that should provide great cruising performance.
